Community Service & Volunteering

NCJW South Cook has many opportunities for volunteers! Here are highlights of some of our projects.

Elyse Bell Traveling Players: The Elyse Bell Traveling Players, since 1963, is one of the many community service projects offered by NCJW South Cook Section. The Traveling Players are a group of enthusiastic men and women, who enjoy bringing silliness and fun with a message of respect, friendship, helpfulness, acceptance and/or self-esteem, to young special needs children and adults. It is the longest running community service project offered by NCJW South Cook Section. The group presents original musical plays to mentally and physically challenged children and adults on two Thursday mornings a month during the school year. The players perform as recognizable characters from film and television such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Minion, Nemo, Dory, Woody and Buzz Lightyear, Mary Poppins, and Mickey and Minnie Mouse. For information contact:  Patricia Arnold at parnoldhappy@gmail.com or Sharon Johnson at sejohnsonncjw@yahoo.com.

Albine Gerson Layette Project: South Cook Section provides layette packages for women going through Aunt Martha’s prenatal program. To assemble these packages or donate items contact: Marianne Switt at stuandmari25@gmail.com.

Peggy Eisenstein Holiday Gift Project: The South Cook Section provides children and teens in the Aunt Martha’s Youth Services program with gifts during the holiday season. In addition, we support young adults in transition through our Duffel Bag Project. To contribute and/or volunteer for this project contact: Bonnie Ribet at frogmom3@aol.com.
