History
The history of the NCJW South Cook Section began in 1921 in Chicago Heights, Illinois. That year, the Jewish Ladies Aid Society of Beth Israel Synagogue organized itself into a Section of the National Council of Jewish Women, Chicago Heights Section. The primary purpose was to provide Jewish religious education to the children of families living in the community.

For the next 20 years, the Section functioned as a sisterhood for the synagogue. Besides the responsibilities of a sisterhood, the Section was actively involved in community activities and was a political action group. Most of all the Section undertook the construction, completion, maintenance and retired the mortgage of a building attached to the synagogue called Council House, which no longer exists.

1949 - The Park Forest Section is established.
1958 - The Chicago Heights Section is renamed the South Cook Section.
1971 - The Park Forest Section is renamed the Lincolnway Section.
1982 - The Lincolnway Section merges with the South Cook Section
2007 - South Cook Section celebrates its 85th birthday.

The South Cook Section has grown to more than 600 members. Its activities fall within the national mission statement. The Section supports these activities through fundraising, gifts and occasional grants.
